Simo hirticornis , as Raufühler-weevil known is a beetle from the family of weevils (Curculionidae).

features

The light brown colored beetles are 4–8.5 mm long. They have an elongated oval shape. The front edge of the broad trunk (rostrum) is cut deeply triangular. The antennae are greatly thickened. The pronotum is slightly wider than it is long, broadest in front of the middle. The pronotum has a rough puncture. Narrow stripes with deeply pierced points run across the wing covers .

Similar species

In addition to Simo hirticornis, there is another representative of the genus Simo , Simo variegatus, in Central Europe . This species can only be separated safely by means of a genital examination.

distribution

Simo hirticornis is native to the western Palearctic . The species occurs in the western Mediterranean (Spain, France, Italy, Croatia and Corsica). The occurrence extends across Central Europe to southern Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden). In the east the occurrence extends to Siberia. The species is absent on the British Isles . In Central Europe, the beetle species is widespread, but only common locally.

Way of life

The beetle species lives polyphagous on deciduous and coniferous trees. The beetles are usually seen from May to August.
