Simon Batterbury

Simon PJ Batterbury (born 1963 ) is a British - Australian geographer . He is Professor of Political Ecology at Lancaster University .

Batterbury studied geography and graduated from the University of Reading with a bachelor's degree in 1985 and a master's degree from Clark University in 1990 . There he received his doctorate in 1997 with a thesis on the political ecology of environmental management in semi-arid West Africa . He conducted a case study in the central plateau of Burkina Faso . In 2017 he was appointed Professor of Political Ecology in Lancaster.

His main research interests are topics of sustainable lifestyles and their implications in politics and society. He is particularly interested in issues of environmental justice and the struggles around it.

Batterbury is Associate Editor of the Journal of Political Ecology .
