Simon Pichler

Wolfgang Pichler (born February 15, 1956 in Graz ; pseudonym: Simon Pichler ) is an Austrian cabaret artist .

Life

Pichler studied medicine after graduating from high school . He also played in amateur play groups. The first cabaret texts were written for the medical cabaret “The Sharp Spoon”. From 1978 he was the lead singer and lyricist of the “Beinhart-Rockbande Fut”, then for “ÖMÖ, die Rocksau”; Appearances that earned him performance bans and police fines. The community service ended his music career.

In 1984 the book: “The political future of Austria in reports, interviews and school essays” was self-published. Staged readings became the first cabaret-like performances, the program “The Last Hippie”. This started a collaboration with Leo Lukas that continues to this day .

Since 1994 he has been the organizer of the “Grazer Kleinkunstwettbewerb”, the largest event for young talent in the German-speaking area. In 2006/7 and 2008/9 he was the acting director of "kunst.werk", a project for unemployed young people from the AMS, the Province of Styria and the European Social Fund. In addition to appearances and writing, Pichler offers numerous workshops, many of them in schools.

He has been married to Christine Barwick since 2003. He has two grown children.

In the run-up to the election of the National Council in 2008 , he supported the left electoral alliance . With a total of 2,138 votes (0.044%), however, it clearly failed to make it into the National Council.
