Simone Giombi

Simone Giombi is a theoretical physicist working in the USA.

Giombi was Research Assistant at the Yang Institute of Theoretical Physics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook from 2004 until his doctorate in 2007 (with Martin Roček ) . As a post-doctoral student he was in the high energy physics theory group at Harvard University from 2007 and in the string theory group at the Perimeter Institute from 2010 . He is an assistant professor at Princeton University .

He deals with AdS / CFT correspondence in various dimensions. In particular, he investigated gauge theories on higher spins (according to Mikhail A. Vasiliev, they contain bosons for every even-numbered spin value) in the four-dimensional anti-de-sitter space (AdS4) and its dual three-dimensional weakly coupled conformal field theory (O ( N) Vector model, i.e. N free massless scalar fields in the O (N) singlet sector or critical O (N) vector model). This was by Igor Klebanov and Alexander Markovich Polyakov been suspected. Both theories are reasonably well understood here. Vasiliev's higher spin theories, like string theories, have stimuli of arbitrarily high spins, only they are not massive, as in string theory, but massless, and the number of states does not grow exponentially with spin, as in string theory, but linearly . Although there are clear differences to string theories, it is hoped that higher spin theories will provide deeper insights into the case of the AdS-CFT correspondence with strings. Giombi worked with Xi Yin (Harvard) in this area .

In addition, he examined quantum corrections in the AdS5 x S5 superstring sigma model and the corresponding terms in the development of observables of the associated four-dimensional N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (here is the AdS / CFT correspondence between type IIB string theories in space and supersymmetric ones Yang-Mills theories on the surface) and examines the connection of nonlocal operators in gauge theories such as Wilson loops with their dual description (via AdS-CFT correspondence) in string theory.

For 2017 he received the New Horizons in Physics Prize with Xi Yin. In 2014 he received the Prize for Classical and Quantum Gravitation from the Italian Society for General Relativity and Gravitation (SIGRAV).
