Ciarán McFeely (* in Cork , Ireland ), better known under his pseudonym Simple Kid , is a largely self-sufficient Irish solo artist and musician who has been releasing LoFi productions made at home since 2002 .

history

Before McFeely went by the stage name Simple Kid, at the age of 17 he and friends founded the neo-glam band The Young Offenders , which had a top 60 single hit in Great Britain in 1998 with (That's Why We) Lose Control .

In his apartment, McFeely began to record his own songs on an 8-track cassette recorder, from which he then created samples in computer programs, remixed them and provided them with sound effects and beats. As McFeely himself says, this recording technique is similar to that of Fatboy Slim , only that he uses foreign song material. In this way, it deliberately creates the outdated LoFi sound of the 1960s / 1970s. Together with the fearless use of a wide variety of stylistic elements from rock and pop history, Simple Kids Musik is also reminiscent of the equally eclectic musician Beck .

His musical influences range from folk and country music through the 1960s and 1990s Britpop à la The Kinks or Blur to glam rock , especially the band T. Rex , which is Simple Kids' first two singles I Am Rock and Truck On (both 2002) becomes particularly clear. The latter came in 2004 as a re-release in the British singles chart to number 38.

After his first album, simply named 1 , and some touring stress, McFeely took a long break from making music and worked in a video store. His second album 2 , which contains the single Serotonin , was released in the UK in October 2006 on Country Gentleman Recordings and in August 2007 in the USA on Yep Roc Records.
