The Simpson Rocks are a group of 10 m high cliff surrounded by sea-washed rocks in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . The rocks are 8 km northeast of Cape Melville on King George Island .
The British navigator James Weddell named them Simpson's Islands in 1825 . After measurements by scientists from the British Discovery Investigations in 1927, this name was adapted. The namesake is not known.
