Simputer
The Simputer is a small, inexpensive handheld - computer , which for use in India and other developing countries has been developed.
The Simputer is the result of several years of research by the Simputer Trust, a non-profit organization founded in November 1999 and run by the Bangelore Seven , behind which four Indian professors from the Indian Institute of Science and three Indian software engineers from the Software manufacturer Encore. One of their speakers is Vinay Deshpande, Encore's CEO.
The word Simputer , a trademark of the Simputer Trust is an acronym the simple, inexpensive mobile people's computer (German: simpler, cheaper mobile people computer ).
The simputer is supplied with power by three Mignon batteries. It has a StrongARM processor with a clock frequency of 206 MHz, 64 MB RAM and 32 MB flash memory . An integrated reader for personalized 8 KB smart cards makes it possible for several people to share a simputer, as the sales price in India of around 9,000 rupees (around 150 euros) is still too high for many people to log into developing countries can afford this device.
