Sinan shipwreck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sinan Shipwreck ( Chinese  新安 沉船 , Pinyin Xin'an chenchuan ) is a merchant ship that sank in the time of the Yuan Dynasty off the South Korean district of Sinan (southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula ), from which an important archaeological find of Chinese ceramics (mostly from the Longquan kiln , also from Jingdezhen ), metal and stone objects could be recovered. The ship was en route from China to Japan and sank around 1323. It was discovered in 1976. The find is important for understanding the Chinese influences on the Japanese Muromachi period (14th-16th centuries).
