TiFiCo Symphony Orchestra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The TiFiCo Symphony Orchestra is an orchestra with a large symphonic line-up from the Zurich area , which is particularly dedicated to the performance of film music and musicals . Founded in the summer of 1996 by alumni of the Oerlikon Cantonal School , the orchestra was primarily composed of pupils and students from a wide variety of disciplines when it was founded. Over time, the orchestra grew into a fully developed symphony orchestra with over 90 participants.

Surname

TiFiCo is not based on the Swiss German word "tifig", but is an abbreviation for the three Latin words "tibicines - fidicines - cornicines", which can be translated as "woodwinds - strings - brass". This also results in the spelling with alternating uppercase and lowercase letters .

Concerts

As a rule, the TiFiCo symphony orchestra gives two regular series of concerts (usually three concerts) in the greater Zurich area each year. In addition, the orchestra is regularly booked for special events or requested for film recordings, for example for New Year's concerts, as a karaoke orchestra, for commercials or fashion shows.

The violinist Ronny Spiegel, the pianists Mischa Cheung and Benjamin Engeli , the cellist Cécile Grüebler and the cellist Alain Schudel are some of the young artists with whom the TiFiCo symphony orchestra was also able to perform solo works. The orchestra has also carried out various special projects with choirs and big bands as well as providing a musical backdrop for the “Day of the Future for Young People” at Expo.02 .
