The Singapore Biennale is a biennial for contemporary art , which in since 2006. Singapore is taking place. The organizer is the Singapore Art Museum with the support of the state National Arts Council .

history

The Singapore Biennale takes place in alternation with the Singapore Art Show , which is reserved for Singaporean artists. The main venues were the Singapore Art Museum and Singapore City Hall. In addition, works of art from the Biennale were shown in a number of temples and public places.

Biennials

2006

1st Singapore Biennale 4 September - 12 November 2006

The first Singapore Biennale took place from September 4th to November 12th, 2006 under the artistic direction of Fumio Nanjo . Her motto was Belief . 95 artists from 38 countries took part in the biennale, represented with 195 works of art. Participating artists included Jenny Holzer , Mariko Mori , Carsten Nicolai , James Turrell and Mark Wallinger . The Biennale was integrated into the Singapore 2006 event series .

2008

2nd Singapore Biennale September 11 - November 16, 2008

Artistic director: Fumio Nanjo, the motto was Wonder (wonder / wonder). 68 artists were invited, including Ilja Kabakow , Anthony McCall and Mariele Neudecker .

2011

3rd Singapore Biennale, March 13 - May 15, 2011. Artistic director: Matthew Ngui (* 1962), curators Russell Storer , Trevor Smith .

2013

4th Singapore Biennale If the World Changed . October 26, 2013 - February 16, 2014. Exhibition organizers and museum people from the participating countries are planned as co-curators.
