Single Island is a towering and icy island off the coast of the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . It is located 22 km south of the Landon Promontory on the west side of the Amery Ice Shelf .
It was mistakenly identified as a promontory based on aerial photographs taken in 1956 during a campaign by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE). Later maps showed it as an island. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named her after Mark Single, chief diesel generator mechanic at Mawson Station in 1962 and a member of the ANARE team that explored the island in December 1962.
