Sinowi Schenderowitsch Tolkachev

Sinowi Schenderowitsch Tolkachev ( Russian Зиновий Шендерович Толкачёв ; born February 23, 1903 in Shchadryn , Minsk Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 1977 in Kiev ) was a Soviet painter .

Tolkachev was a professor at the Kiev Art School . In the summer of 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army . He took part in the liberation of Majdanek and Auschwitz and documented the horror in drawings.

After his death, his children gave these drawings to the Yad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem, which they prepared for traveling exhibitions in memory of the victims of National Socialism.
