history

In 1995 a new Russian Orthodox parish was founded in the northeast of Öskemen. The services were held in a private house, which is why the construction of a new church was necessary.

The first option was to restore an old church that had several different functions during Soviet times. The building housed a school and a shop , among other things . However, the owner had to close his shop and the site was no longer used.

The decision to build the new church was not made until 2002. The foundation was laid that same year and the first service took place in 2003. On September 4, 2005, the Zinoviev Church was consecrated by the Metropolitan of Astana and Almaty .

architecture

The square-plan building is made of red brick and has a large onion dome in the middle , surrounded by four smaller ones in the corners. The five onion hoods are gold-plated. Two apses adjoin to the north and south .
