history

The oldest part of the Martinus Church is the just closed choir from the 14th century. The single nave nave and the tower built into it were built in the early 15th century. The northern transept was built around 1500, the wider and higher southern transept and a new west building around the tower in the course of the 16th century. The stilt tower itself with a lower portal behind a kind of vestibule has a structural equivalent in the medieval churches of Gapinge and Ovezande in Zeeland. The late Gothic font was built in 1552.
