The . Church of the Holy Great Martyr Procopius ( Serbian : Црква Светог великомученика Прокопија, Crkva Svetog velikomučenika Prokopija) in the Opština (municipality) Bijeljina belonging village Dvorovi is a Serbian Orthodox parish church in the northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina .

The church, built from 1991 to 1996, is dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr Prokopios . It is the parish church of the parish Dvorovi in the deanery Bijeljina of the eparchy Zvornik - Tuzla of the Serbian Orthodox Church .

The Church of St. Prokopios the Great Martyr is located in the center of the village of Dvorovi, which has around 5,180 inhabitants and has also become a well-known health resort in recent decades. The church is located at the intersection of Karađorđeva Ulica and Kneza Miloša streets . Dvorovi is located in the flat plain of the Semberija , about 6.5 km northeast of the municipality capital Bijeljina, not far from the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the neighboring country of Serbia to the east. The Bistrik River flows through the village.

The municipality of Bijeljina is located in the Republika Srpska , one of the two entities in the country with a predominantly Serbian population.

Not far from the church in the fenced churchyard is the parish's 180 m² parsonage, which was built in 1998. The house of St. Sava of Serbia (Svetosavski dom) is currently under construction, in 2008 the Svetosavski dom was covered with a roof.

Not far behind the church is the Serbian Orthodox cemetery of Dvorovi, the oldest tombs date from the 18th century. On the west facade of the church there are two marble slabs on which the names of the church donors are written.

The slava of the village is Ascension Day (Spasovdan).

history

Construction of the church began in 1991 shortly before the outbreak of the Bosnian War , and on May 3, 1992, the foundations of the church were consecrated by the then episcope of the Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) eparchy.

The church was designed and built based on the model of a Serbian Orthodox church in the Serbian city of Kragujevac .

Ktitors (donors) of the church are: Zdravko Glišić (president of the building commission for the church), the godparents of the church Dragoljub and his wife Slobodanka Savić, the godmother of the foundations of the church Slađana Rafailović, the chairman of the parish Dvorovi Živadin Stančić and Savatija Nikolić.

The construction work was finished in 1996 after five years. And on September 29, 1996, Episkop Vasilije (Kačavenda) inaugurated the Church of St. Prokopios the Great Martyr.

The church was painted with Byzantine frescoes from 2002 to 2003 by the well-known Belgrade painter Petar Bilić. The iconostasis made of oak was carved by the iconostasis builder Brano Majstorović from Dvorovi. The icons were painted by the icon painter Gojko Ristović from Bijeljina.

The single - nave cross-domed church was built in the Serbian-Byzantine style , with an altar - apse in the east and a steeple with a church bell and an entrance portal in the west. The church was built from small bricks and the facade consists of small white bricks.

The basic shape of the church is a Greek cross . A round dome rises above the middle of the nave at the intersection of the side arms.

The church has entrances on the west, north and south façades, the west entrance being the most important. Above the entrance there is a large patronage icon depicting the Holy Great Martyr Prokopios.

The parish of Dvorovi

The oldest parish books date from 1897. After the Second World War , the books were stolen from the parish by the authorities of what was then socialist Yugoslavia . The parish got the books back in 2005.

The church choir of Saint King Vladislav has existed since 2011 under the direction of the conductor Ognjen Vujičić, who performs sacred Orthodox music. The parish also has an orchestra that maintains traditional Serbian folk music.

The parish also includes the Velika Rokada chess club , with around 30 members. The members of the club have won over 120 medals in chess competitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

Youth community of St. Sava of Serbia in Dvorovi

The church community also includes the youth community of St. Sava of Serbia, this organization of young people can be found in many Serbian Orthodox parishes. They organize religious concerts and events, help the poorer people and contribute to the very lively parish of a Serbian Orthodox parish.

These youth communities were named after the Serbian national saint, the first archbishop and the illuminator of the Serbian people, St. Sava of Serbia . The youth community on St. Sava from Serbia in Dvorovi was founded in 2009 and works in close cooperation with the youth community on St. Sava from Serbia in Dazdarevo and has also helped to build a house for the Morača family.

Parish priest

Archpriest Milan Ivanović has been the priest of the church from the consecration of the church in 1996 until today. From 2004 to 2007 Milan Ivanović was also a priest of the then branch church of the parish Dvorovi and today's parish church of the parish Dazdarevo-Triješnica , the church of the assembly of all Serbian saints in the neighboring village of Dazdarevo .
