Priapichthys is a genus of livebearing toothcarps (Poeciliinae). The fish are found in Costa Rica and Panama, as well as in Colombia and Ecuador west of the Andes .

features

Priapichthys species reach lengths between 3 cm and 4 cm (males) and between 4 cm and 6.5 cm (females). Outwardly they resemble the Brachyrhaphis species and the gambus , but the males of Priapichthys have a longer and differently shaped gonopodium . When applied to the body, it extends almost to the tail fin. The end of the gonopodium is bent downwards like a hook. Priapichthys species are inconspicuously colored from olive brown to olive gray.
