The Georgian Orthodox Bolnissier Sioni Church ( Georgian ბოლნისის სიონი ; bɔlnɪsɪs sɪɔnɪ ) is the oldest surviving, dated church in Georgia . It is located in Bolnissi in the Niederkartlien region , municipality of Bolnissi , on the left bank of the Bolnissiszqali river . According to an inscription located above the eastern entrance on the north wall, it was built between 478 and 493.

The Bolnissier Sioni Church is a three-aisled basilica . The walls are covered with carved turquoise blue square stone. The three naves are separated by five columns. The apse is semicircular.

The Bolnissi inscriptions on the church are famous . They are the oldest historical evidence of Georgian writing in Georgia.

From the Bolnissier Sioni Church also comes bolnisi cross next to the cross of the - that today the Holy Nino ( grapevine cross is often used by the Georgian Orthodox Church -).

The football club FC Sioni Bolnissi is named after the church.
