The Turkish nuthatch ( Sitta krueperi ) is a songbird from Asia Minor .

features

The 11.5–12.5 cm long Turkish nuthatch has a relatively small head and short beak. The plumage is colored blue-gray on top. The dirty white underside contrasts with a red-brown spot on the chest. On the head there is a white stripe above the eyes and a black apex area, which is larger in the male and more sharply defined towards the rear than in the female. The singing consists of a series of high-pitched, nasal tones reminiscent of a bicycle horn or a children's trumpet.

Occurrence

The resident bird lives in the Caucasus , Turkey and on the island of Lesbos in forests of different altitudes. He spends the cold season in deep forests or in the lowlands of the Black Sea region. From the end of April, the Turkish nuthatch incubates five to six eggs in a tree cavity.
