The Sea of ​​Sicily , Latin Mare Siculum , refers to the section of the Mediterranean Sea in the triangle defined by Sicily in the north, Tunisia in the southwest and Malta in the east. In the west it narrows to the Strait of Sicily , over which it borders the Tyrrhenian Sea and the open western Mediterranean.

The Libyan Sea , part of the open Mediterranean , connects to the east and south-east .

In the past, the Sicilian Sea was also known as the African Sea .
