Skin (American band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Skin (also The World Of Skin ) was a musical side project by Michael Gira , singer and band boss of the US formation Swans , and Swans singer Jarboe .

Band history

The Swans, formed by Michael Gira in 1982, first went through a power rock phase experimenting with monotonous, rhythmic and atonal sounds . Starting with their cover version of Joy Divisions Love Will Tear Us Apart and the 1987 album Children Of God , the Swans incorporated both orchestral and acoustic sounds into their compositions. Singer / band boss Michael Gira and singer Jarboe, at the time also privately linked, continued this tendency in their side project Skin. In 1990, after the third album Ten Songs For Another World , the project was ended. From 1991 Jarboe appeared - in addition to her continued collaboration with the Swans - with solo releases under her own name.
