Ski technician

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A ski technician is responsible for preparing the skis before a competition or for use in the leisure area .

A ski technician is usually an employee of a ski area or a competition located there, who is responsible for the correct preparation and adjustment, but also for the repair of defective winter sports equipment, or an employee in the professional sports area . Especially in the professional field, for example at World Cup events in Nordic or Alpine skiing , every team has a permanent base of ski technicians who drive with the team to the competitions and prepare the sports equipment on site.

The main tasks of a ski technician include waxing the skis with special ski wax and grinding the ski edges. Since advancing technology in skiing means that there is a special wax or a special wax combination for every temperature and snow texture, this is a decisive contribution to the success or failure of an athlete. Often good ski technicians have their own wax mixtures whose recipe is kept secret.

In the leisure sector, the skis are usually overhauled once per ski season, often in specialist sports shops at home or in ski rental stations before each rental . This includes adjusting the bindings, any necessary regrinding or waxing. Most of all, however, the waxing is repeated every few days by the recreational athletes themselves. A ski technician is not absolutely necessary for this.

In addition, a ski technician has the task of repairing battered but still functional winter sports equipment for the next use. He is jointly responsible for the smooth running of a ski sport event or the rental station of a ski area. Ski technicians are a special form of seasonal workers .
