Ski insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ski insurances are private insurances that, depending on the provider, cover various insured events when practicing winter sports or the return journey to / from the winter sports resort. These insured events are not or only partially covered by the statutory social or health insurance . An example of this is the cost of salvage after an accident, particularly that of a helicopter, which can be considerable. In very few cases, damage to snowboards or skis or the theft of these devices are covered by other private insurance. In addition, many people still do not have adequate liability insurance to help them with claims for damages. These gaps are closed by the ski insurances.

General overview

In the past 30 years, the number of injuries in alpine skiing has more than halved per season. This is due on the one hand to the higher safety precautions, as well as to the better equipment of the skiers. Nevertheless, many people make use of the additional protection of ski insurance. These offer their own packages for various insured events in winter sports and also insure customers against damage that is not covered by statutory social or health insurance. Often, ski insurances also guarantee a better care class in the hospital. When selecting the desired policy, a distinction is usually made between individual, partner and family insurance. With some providers there are differences in the contributions between skiers and snowboarders.

Insured events in winter sports

The following insurance cases can be included in the various insurance packages of the providers:

Rescue costs

The rescue costs are one of the most important insured events in winter sports , as these are covered by the statutory social or health insurance i. d. Usually not accepted. The slope operator does not take care of this either. Therefore, uninsured people usually have to bear these costs themselves. In particular, the costs of a helicopter rescue are usually in the range of several thousand euros.

Ski and snowboard theft

The number of ski and snowboard theft has multiplied in recent years, which is why more and more winter sports enthusiasts prefer to have their skis and snowboards insured. In addition to your own skis and snowboards, many ski insurances also include skis and snowboards rented from a commercial rental company. Often, however, the period of the night is given a condition. Skis and snowboards must be stored in a locked room or in a car. Some insurance companies also regulate theft that occurred while traveling to or from the winter sports resort.

Damage to the ski or snowboard (breakage, etc.)

No matter whether breakage, damage to the edge or other damage to the ski or snowboard, these are also covered by the insurance in most cases.

Personal injury (death, cosmetic surgery, etc.)

Ski insurance also covers personal injuries that lead to disability or death. From a certain degree of disability, depending on the provider, rehab management is offered. Cosmetic operations necessary as a result of an accident are also covered by most insurance policies, but not necessarily in the basic protection.

Daily hospital allowance

A daily hospital allowance is not always paid. The amount is also different depending on the protection, so that minimum and maximum payments of the insurance are specified.

Transport costs (return transport costs, transfer costs, etc.)

Transport costs are usually also covered by the providers. While the return transport costs are actually fully covered, the transfer costs are usually limited. Here you should therefore pay attention to the amount up to which the insurance pays depending on the desired provision.

Liability

The liability of ski insurances regulates third party liability claims against the insured. The insurance sums of the individual providers differ depending on personal injury, property damage or financial loss. Some insurers offer bad debt coverage. This pays for your damage if the person who caused the damage does not have personal liability insurance and cannot meet his obligations to pay compensation.

Legal protection

The legal protection insurances of the providers cover the legal and court costs in the event of legal disputes. The sum insured differs depending on the provider.

providers

Many insurers offer additional services as part of an existing insurance policy. The disadvantage is that although personal injury is insured, theft or breakage of equipment is not listed. There are third-party providers who offer a policy specially designed for skiing holidays. DSV aktiv / Friends of Ski Sports in the German Ski Association offers various insurance classes. The ADAC also has an extra winter sports insurance in its program.
