Skjerstad was a Norwegian municipality in the province of Nordland until December 31, 2004 .

history

Skjerstad was founded in 1837 and was initially on both sides of the Skjerstadfjord. In 1963 the areas on the north side were handed over to the municipality of Bodin , which was later incorporated into Bodø .

After a referendum in 2004 it was decided with a two-vote majority that the municipality will be merged with the municipality of Bodø.

The landscape in Skjerstad is very mountainous and known for its goat husbandry.

The municipality had 1,030 inhabitants and its administrative center was in Misvær . In 2016, 1,075 people lived in the area of ​​the former municipality.
