SkyTran (Eilat)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SkyTran is a public transport system planned in Eilat to connect Eilat International Airport , Israel , to the city center.

Project

The US company SkyTran has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the city of Eilat with the aim of setting up a transport system of the same name in the city. This is the fourth such MoU signed with a city in Israel.

In April 2019, approval from the Israeli Ministry of Transport was awaited. Construction is planned to start in 2019.

technology

SkyTran is a magnetic levitation train . It should run on a single rail that can be used in both directions. Two or four-person cabins are to be used, which run driverless and computer-controlled and hang under the rails. The rail is mounted on masts eight to nine meters above the ground. However, the technology is still in the development stage and will not be ready for the market until 2021 at the earliest. The costs should be around 1/10 for a corresponding tram route.
