SkyTran (Netanya)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SkyTran is a local transport system planned in Netanya , which will connect the Netanya-Sapir train station south of the city center with the Kiryat Nordau district.

Project

The US company SkyTran has signed a memorandum of understanding with the city of Netanya with the aim of setting up a transport system of the same name in the city. This is one of four such letters of intent that have been signed with a city in Israel.

The route is to be elevated and mainly use the route of state road 2 along the Mediterranean coast.

technology

SkyTran is a magnetic levitation train . It can run on a single rail that can be used in both directions. Cabs are to be used that run driverless and computer-controlled and hang under the rails. The rail is mounted on masts eight to nine meters above the ground. However, the technology is still in the development stage and will not be ready for the market until 2021 at the earliest. The costs should be around 1/10 for a corresponding tram route.
