Skycam is the product name of a computer-controlled camera system that is used at major events and in sports stadiums . The system hovers over the playing field hanging on wires and can thus follow the game from a bird's eye view . It is also used for slow motion display of hits and the course of the game .

In contrast to the cable camera , in which several cameramen hand over a film and television camera , a cameraman sometimes drives along.

functionality

The system works in a similar way to the Steadicam . The system was originally developed by CF Inflight , but the company was acquired by Winnercomm, Inc. in 2004.

History

In the mid-1980s - when the system was patented by Garrett Brown - camera systems like the Skycam were seldom used. This only changed in the mid-1990s, when significant improvements in computer and servo motor technology were achieved.
