criticism

“In eleven stories set somewhere between Ukraine and Western Europe, this book tells the story of the fate of modern migrant workers. Mostly it is sheer hardship and not a thirst for adventure that drives them into the offices, kitchens and living rooms of the West. In Ukraine, the number of families with at least one of the parents working abroad is said to be in the millions. That is, maybe a million children left behind. Does modern technology help more than the old postcard? "
