Arno Bogenrieder (* 1944 in Schramberg ) is a German botanist and professor emeritus in the Faculty of Biology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

life and work

From 1963 to 1972 Bogenrieder studied biology and chemistry at the University of Freiburg. In 1969 he passed the first state examination. His state examination thesis was entitled "On the floristry and ecology of some glacial relics in the Feldberg nature reserve (Black Forest)". In 1972 he did his doctorate under Otti Wilmanns on "Comparative physiological-ecological studies on populations of subalpine plants from the Black Forest and the Alps".

After working at the Federal Institute for Forest Research as head of the Ecophysiology Working Group in the high mountain program , Bogenrieder returned to the University of Freiburg in 1973 as an Academic Councilor at the Department of Botany. In 1980 he completed his habilitation at the University of Freiburg and received the Venia Legendi in geobotany.

From 1982 he took on a second professorship at the Chair of Geobotany, founded in 1975 at the University of Freiburg.

Bogenrieder's research focus over the years has included experimental ecology , vegetation science and change, in particular vegetation in the Black Forest, the Alps and the Upper Rhine Plain, as well as studies on Pinus rotundata in the Black Forest and Alnus viridis in the Alps.

In addition to Hans Kössel (biochemistry, molecular biology) and Günther Osche and Klaus Günter Collatz (both zoology), Bogenrieder was one of the specialist advisors (for botany) for the first editions of the Herder Lexicon of Biology and specialist adviser for the Herder Lexicon of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology .

He was also the nature conservation officer of the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district .
