Ekkehard Liehl

Ekkehard Liehl (born May 28, 1911 in Bad Kreuznach ; † March 5, 2003 in Kirchzarten ) was a German geographer and librarian .

Life

After graduating from high school in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1929 , Ekkehard Liehl studied geography, geology and biology in Königsberg and Freiburg , where he received his doctorate in 1933 under Hans Mortensen .

He then joined the library service at the Freiburg University Library and, after graduating from the library service in 1937, was a specialist in geography and natural sciences, from 1944 as a library councilor, from 1974 until his retirement in 1976 as library director.

From 1952 to 1992 he was a lecturer for "auxiliary geographic sciences" at the Institute of Geography at the University of Freiburg, which in 1992 appointed him honorary professor. In 1979 he received the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg , and in 1986 he was made an honorary citizen of his home town of Hinterzarten .
