Akira Miyawaki
Akira Miyawaki ( Japanese 宮 脇 昭 , Miyawaki Akira ; born January 29, 1928 in Nariwa (today: Takahashi ), Okayama Prefecture ) is a Japanese university professor and plant sociologist .
career
Miyawaki studied biology at the University of Hiroshima , where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952. Afterwards he was a research assistant at the State University of Yokohama until 1958 and worked from 1958 to 1960 and again from 1963 to 1964 as a research assistant with Reinhold Tüxen at the then Federal Institute for Vegetation Mapping in Stolzenau . In 1961 Miyawaki received his doctorate from Yokohama State University to the Doctor of Science.
After an assistant professorship from 1962 to 1973, he headed the Institute for Environmental Sciences and Environmental Technology at the State University of Yokohama until 1993 and held the position of director from 1985 until his retirement in 1993. Since 1993 he has been director of the Japanese Center for International Studies in Ecology (JISE).
From 1977 to 1978 Miyawaki held a visiting professorship at Saarbrücken University .
Act
Miyawaki is a distinguished vegetation expert who introduced the methods of the Braun-Blanquet-Tüxen School in Japan and made them popular. His work and activities on the development of native forest communities in Japan according to the concept of “ potential natural vegetation ” are groundbreaking .
