content

"Morgarten takes place" is a character study of Swiss patriotism , filmed on the occasion of the Morgarten seasonal battle in 1977. It takes place every year on November 15 in memory of the Battle of Morgarten on November 15, 1315. The film is a folkloric document of the times about a festival world where riflemen, farmers, school children, civil and military authorities and the population celebrate. The film shows the complexity with aspects and observations on this occasion as well as cinematic references to the past with excerpts from the “ Schweizer Filmwochenschau ”, the film “ The Origin of the Confederation ”, 1924, by Emil Harder and “ Landammann Stauffacher ”, 1942, by Leopold Lindtberg . In 2015 the film was digitally restored to mark the “700 Years of Morgarten” anniversary with the help of Memoriav (Association for the Preservation of Switzerland's Audiovisual Cultural Assets).
