Swiss film week show

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Weekly Film Show was a series of films commissioned by the Federal Council that was broadcast weekly in the opening programs of the cinemas . In addition to the news in the newspapers and the radio, the cinemas subscribed - initially still compulsory - to films about current affairs from politics, culture, science, technology, sport and entertainment, with the films being broadcast in German, French and Italian. The producer was Cinégram, based in Lausanne . With the spread of private television sets and television as a mass medium , the newsreel lost its importance until it had to cease operations due to a lack of subscriptions.

Precursors 1923–1936

The weekly newsreel of Office cinématographique, a company by Emile Taponnier, Jacques Béranger and Arthur-Adrien Porchet , which was produced in Lausanne from September 1923, is regarded as the forerunner of the Swiss weekly film show . The foreign competition with their "block contracts" was too strong, however, which in March 1936 led to production being stopped. Ernst Löpfe protested against the setting.
