Memoriav

Memoriav is an association founded in 1995 that has made it its business to preserve and develop Swiss audiovisual cultural assets .

history

The association was founded on December 1st, 1995 by the following institutions:

In 1998, the Swiss Institute for the Conservation of Photography , Neuchâtel, was added as a further founding member . In 2006 Memoriav had, in addition to the 7 founding members, 103 collective members, 29 institutional donors and 30 individual donors.

The activity is supported by the federal government. For the period 1998 to 2001, the Federal Council approved an annual contribution of 1.8 million francs, for the years 2002 to 2005 3 million francs each.

On December 16, 2005, parliament passed the federal law on the distribution of financial aid to the Memoriav association , which came into force on May 1, 2006. For the activities in the years 2006 to 2009, a simple federal decree approved a credit line of 11.7 million francs.

At the General Assembly on April 26, 2013, Marie-Christine Doffey, Director of the Swiss National Library and previous Vice-President of Memoriav, was elected as the new President. Pio Pellizzari , the director of the Swiss National Sound Archives and longstanding member of the Memoriav board, was elected vice-president. The business of the association has been managed by Christoph Stuehn (director) since May 1, 2013. At the General Assembly on April 22, 2016, Christine Egerszegi was unanimously elected as the new President of Memoriav.

The aim of the association is to preserve audiovisual media ( photography , sound , film and video ) as a cultural asset as well as to make them accessible and accessible. The association promotes the exchange of information and the optimal use of resources between institutions and people who are active in this area. In addition, Memoriav provides the impetus for specific projects and does public relations work.
