Wollmanders is a district of the core town of Lorch in the Rheingau in southern Hesse, 12 km away . For the formerly independent municipality of Wollmigart there is a separate local district with a local advisory board . The village, which is almost 400 meters above sea level, has around 250 inhabitants and is in close proximity to the Rheinsteig .

history

A first documentary mention of Wollmanders took place in 1324 when the border was determined in the northern Rheingau. The place was part of the Kurmainz territory with the whole Rheingau . In 1675 it was demarcated from the neighboring district of Ransel . Wollmewhere's coat of arms first appeared on a court seal in 1797. It shows the picture of the village chapel above the Mainz wheel .

In 1806 Wollmanders came to the Duchy of Nassau and belonged to the Rüdesheim office . After the annexation of the duchy by Prussia , the place was assigned to the Rheingau district in the Wiesbaden administrative region in 1867 . In 1894 the Catholic Church of St. Antonius was built.

After the First World War , during the Allied occupation of the Rhineland , the town was located in a narrow corridor between the bridgeheads on the right bank of the Rhine between the Americans around Koblenz and the French around Mainz. The area existed as a bottleneck Free State until the military occupation by France in 1923 . After the Second World War , the place was in the American occupation zone directly on the border with the French zone and thus became part of the state of Hesse.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Wollmigart was incorporated into the city of Lorch on January 1, 1977.

The last local mayor of the formerly independent community was Jakob Schwank; then followed as the first mayor Bruno Missler as chairman of the local advisory board.

coat of arms

On October 16, 1958, the Hessian Minister of the Interior approved a coat of arms with the following blazon for the community of Wollmigart in the Rheingau district : In red a silver church topped with a red wheel.

Culture

The list of cultural monuments in Wollmigart comprises three items:

  • The old town center is under ensemble protection
  • The cath. St. Antonius Church and the Werkerbrunnen are recognized as cultural monuments.

The custom of lighting the Hale fire on Shrove Tuesday has existed since time immemorial. In the past, school leavers, the so-called Hale boys, collected straw and wood from the farmers in order to build a large funeral pyre with a doll, the Kasper, crowned it. On Shrove Tuesday at nightfall, the boys lit the fire. By burning the Kaspers, experts could see how the weather was developing during the year. This custom is continued to this day, but by the local associations.

Since 2010 there has been a nationally known music festival every summer in Wollmigart , the Tropical Tango .
