Erich Langjahr

Erich Langjahr (born April 27, 1944 in Baar ZG ) is a Swiss film designer, film director and film producer. Since 1971 he has been producing and shooting documentaries in Switzerland. In 2003, Langjahr achieved great success with the shepherd's journey into the third millennium . The film received several awards and prizes, including the 2003 Swiss Film Prize for best documentary. In 2002, Langjahr received the Central Switzerland Culture Prize for all of his work .

life and work

Erich Langjahr (1944, citizen of Freienbach SZ and Rüti ZH) grew up with his brother Fritz Langjahr (1938–2003) with his parents in Zug. His father Fritz Langjahr (1905–1991) was an authorized signatory and head of personnel at the Zug Metallwarenfabrik , his mother Martha Langjahr-Mistelberger (1911–1978) was the daughter of Johann Mistelberger (1876–1952), rector of the commercial vocational school in Zug.

Erich Langjahr attended primary and secondary school in Zug. He then completed an apprenticeship as a chemical laboratory assistant with André Samuel Dreiding at the organic-chemical institute of the University of Zurich. In addition, he made various further training courses in Zurich (Juventus, Minerva and Mössinger) and at the Basel School of Applied Arts .

Langjahr has been a freelance filmmaker since 1971. In 1973/74 he attended the lecture "Nonverbal Communication on Film" by Walter Marti and Reni Mertens at the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Zurich. He then worked with Walter Marti and Reni Mertens under the former company "Teleproduction" and has been distributing their films ever since. In 1994 he founded the "Langjahr Film GmbH" together with his wife Silvia Haselbeck. The couple have two sons.

In addition to many short films, Erich Langjahr has made eleven full-length feature films to date. He is an honorary member of the “Film Directing and Script Switzerland” association (FDS) and the “Film Zentralschweiz” association, as well as a member of the Swiss Film Academy and board member of the FLIZ (cinema club in Zug). He has received various national and international awards, including the Central Switzerland Culture Prize , the Central Switzerland Film Prize of the Albert Köchlin Foundation, the Swiss Film Prize "Best Documentary Film", the Golden Dove of the Leipzig International Documentary Film Festival and the City of Lucerne Award .
