Landammann Stauffacher is a feature film by the director Leopold Lindtberg, produced in Switzerland in 1941 . It plays in the run-up to the Battle of Morgarten and was created in the course of the “ intellectual national defense ” during the Second World War .

Emergence

Shortly before and during the Second World War, the importation of foreign films into Switzerland was subject to state quotas in order to promote patriotic film production. Among other things, the films Füsilier Wipf in 1938 and Gilberte de Courgenay and Landammann Stauffacher in 1941 were made by Lazar Wechsler's Praesens film . The latter was a contribution to the 650th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation .

The director was Leopold Lindtberg , the script was written by Richard Schweizer and Kurt Guggenheim . They were guided by historical documents and Schiller's Wilhelm Tell . The film music was composed by Robert Blum , with Emil Berna in charge of the camera . Heinrich Gretler played the leading role of Werner Stauffacher , other actors included Robert Trösch , Fred Tanner , Anne-Marie Blanc , Cäsar Allemanni , Leopold Biberti , Emil Hegetschweiler , Ellen Widmann , Johannes Steiner , Emil Gerber , Charles Ferdinand Vaucher , Zarli Carigiet and Hermann Stieger .

The film was held in Swiss German , which Hermann Stieger was responsible for. While the actors in the roles of the Confederates spoke an original Swiss dialect, Charles Ferdinand Vaucher had a Basel German dialect as the villain , which was based on written German. The Basel villain is a common stereotype in Swiss films.

A medieval village near Lauerzersee was reconstructed for the shooting . The installation of the landscape photos was monitored by the press and radio communications department so that no objects of military importance were shown.

Landammann Stauffacher has recently been restored by the Swiss Film Archive and Memoriav and brought back to the cinemas. The film is also available on DVD .

On August 15 and 16, 2010, the film was broadcast twice by 3sat , at 9.10 a.m. and at 2.15 a.m. the following night.

action

In 1314, Heinrich Stauffacher and the Schwyzers plundered the Einsiedeln monastery , which is under the protection of the Habsburgs , in the course of the Marche dispute . The Swiss swear allegiance to Ludwig of Bavaria , whose opponent is Friedrich von Habsburg . Count Friedrich von Toggenburg tries to change the mind of the Confederates. But under Werner Stauffacher's leadership they finally go into battle against Leopold .

criticism

The author Thomas Hunziker wrote in his film blog in 2009: "Despite the worldview restricted by the situation at the time and the thickly applied pathos," Landammann Stauffacher "can convince with the honest presentation and the solid script."
