Leopold Biberti

Leopold Biberti (born September 18, 1894 in Berlin , † November 24, 1969 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Swiss actor .

Life

Leopold Biberti was the son of the opera singer Robert Robert Biberti and the pianist Emilie Béral. Like his brother Robert Biberti , he had inherited his musical talent from his parents. He played the piano at an early age.

He began his training as an actor at the Königliches Schauspielhaus Berlin . His theater career began in 1912. From 1914 Biberti played in Switzerland for several years. During this time he lived in Bern and learned the Bernese dialect . He received Swiss citizenship in 1920. Further engagements brought him back to Germany. After the Nazis came to power in 1933, he finally returned to Switzerland.

Biberti performed at the Stadttheater Basel and the Schauspielhaus Zurich . His figure and voice were particularly suitable for plays by William Shakespeare and Henrik Ibsen . His interpretation of Othello was impressive . The perfectly bilingual Biberti also played in western Switzerland and after the war in France. From 1950 he played and directed at the Comedy Basel , which he co-founded. Further theater tours followed in Germany later, in which, in addition to the classics, he also performed modern pieces by Jean Anouilh , Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt . In addition to his stage work, he was also committed to radio plays.

He made his screen debut in 1937 in the film Kleine Scheidegg . After further leading roles, Leopold Lindtberg engaged him for four of his films. The film De Wyberfind was made from material already shot from the film Der 8th Schwyzer , which was banned in 1940 and only shown in 1981.

In the 1940 film Dilemma , he played the lead role of Dr. Paul Ferrat. Directed by Edmund Heuberger . The film was produced by “Gotthard-Film GmbH” and distributed in Switzerland by Ciel Weissmann through the distribution company “Emelka-Film AG” .

When Paul Ilg's book Das Menschlein Matthias was filmed in 1941, he played a leading role alongside Röbi Rapp , Sigfrid Steiner , Hermann Gallinger , Petra Marin, Hans Fehrmann, Waldburga Gmühr, Ditta Oesch, Marga Galli and Edwige Elisabeth.

He was also seen in the educational film Fight against Cancer in 1945 . After six years of absence, Biberti returned to the screen with Uli the tenant of Franz Schnyder . In addition to Käthe Gold and Maria Schell , he was seen in Rose Bernd by Wolfgang Staudte . From 1960 he made television films in Germany.

Leopold Biberti was married to Traude Pulfer since 1937. He died of heart failure while on a theater tour in Germany.
