Slaven Ball Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Slaven Ball Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 88). It was performed for the first time on February 17, 1851 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The Quadrille was created in the carnival of 1851 and was premiered on the occasion of a ball for the Slavs based in Vienna (Slavic Ball) . The composer used Slavic motifs in the music accordingly. In the third part he used an earlier motif from his Slavic Potpourri (op. 39). The work was played more often at first, but was soon forgotten. The orchestral version has meanwhile been lost. The CD recording mentioned below was made with the help of an arrangement by Christian Pollack based on the piano reduction.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 50 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
