Mask Festival Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mask Festival Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 92). It was performed for the first time on February 4, 1851 in the Redouten Hall of the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

The work was written on the occasion of a charity event organized by Archduke Franz Karl of Austria , the emperor's father, for the benefit of the blind and the Leopoldstadt children's shelter (kindergarten) and was premiered on this occasion. The event was carried out as a masked ball, which explains the name of the quadrille. Incidentally, it was the first masked ball in Vienna after the revolution of 1848 . It was of course a pleasure and honor for the composer to perform in the Hofburg.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 6 minutes and 32 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
