Coordinates: 68 ° 49 ′ S , 154 ° 44 ′ E
The Slava Ice Shelf ( Russian Залив Слава , Saliw Slava , loosely translated: Glory Bay ; English Slava Ice Shelf ) is an ice shelf at the Georg-V.-coast between the Mawson Peninsula and Cape Andreyev .
The first aerial photographs of the formation were taken during Operation Highjump (1946–1947). It was named in the course of the Second Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1956-1958) in reference to the large bay that is occupied by the ice shelf. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) transferred the name to the ice shelf. It is named after the Soviet Slavic whaling fleet.
