Sleigh Ride in July (Eng. " Sleigh Ride in July ") is a song from the film Belle of the Yukon (1944). It was composed by Jimmy Van Heusen with a text by Johnny Burke .

background

The film Belle of the Yukon is about the gold rush in America. The music for the film was composed by the songwriting duo van Heusen and Burt, who received an Oscar for Swinging on a Star from The Way to Happiness the year before . It was therefore foreseeable that they would also receive a nomination for their latest work. There were two songs in The Belle of Yukon , both sung by Dinah Shore , that were suitable, Like Someone in Love and Sleigh Ride in July . Ultimately, the jury decided on Sleigh Ride in July . It lost to It Might as Well Be Spring by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein from the film Love Fair . Both songs were interpreted by Bing Crosby that same year , with Sleigh Ride being the A-side in July and Like Someone in Love being the B-side . Dinah Shiore also released the single with Tommy Dorsey , but only Sleigh Ride was successful in July .

Another version of the song came from Julie London for her album Calendar Girl . The songs on the album are sorted by season , making Sleigh Ride in July the song for July. The accompanying illustration shows Julie London in a skimpy Uncle Sam outfit on a bar stool with a large stick of dynamite in her hand.

text

The text is about a girl who is fooled in July. Despite promises of love, the romance doesn't last very long and the girl is disappointed that she has been led onto ice.
