Slidur

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Slidur , also Slid or Slidr ( Old Norse Slíðr 'dangerous') is a river that flows through the underworld of Norse mythology and is called in the Edda (see list of rivers in the song Grímnismál ).

description

According to the Völuspá ('The Seer Prophecy'), Slidur comes from the Poison Valley, flows eastwards through the world of Hel and carries daggers and swords with her.

"A stream rolls eastwards through the pus valleys,
mud and swords, called Slidur."

After the Gylfaginning in the Snorra-Edda, Slidur rises from the Hvergelmir spring in Niflheim . Hvergelmir is also the source of the Slidur in Grímnismál , but is located here near Walhall .
