SlimRom (also slim6 , SlimLP , SlimKat or SlimBean ) is an Android - Custom ROM . The main feature are the many setting options in the user interface .

As of September 2nd, 2015 SlimRom has been an LTD in the UK after previous attempts to establish an e. V. in Germany.

features

The name of the current SlimRom version usually consists of Slim and the code name of the Android version used. An exception to this is the current version with the name Slim6 (Android version: Marshmallow).

Some of these features have not been included in the SlimRom since SlimLP. In most cases, the cause is the change in Android's user interface with the introduction of Material Design for Android 5.0 and up.

Features no longer present since SlimLP

TRDS

With the "The real dark Slim" option (TRDS), dark backgrounds in the menu of the SlimKat and SlimBean versions were made deep black and not like e.g. B. Colored dark gray on Stock Android. Furthermore, some Google apps have been partially inverted . This made the light backgrounds black and the writing turned white. This option could optionally also be adjusted automatically depending on the lighting conditions.

SlimPie

With SlimPIE there was a customizable menu based on CyanogenMods CM Pie, which appeared semicircular when touched on the edge of the screen. This enabled shortcuts to apps or functions without navigating through menus.

Dialer

The SlimRom dialer enables you to search through phone books and also shows the corresponding phone book entries for incoming calls. However, this feature is only available in Canada and the United States.

Shake events

Shake events enabled the user to start certain apps or lock the device if he shook it. It was possible to set whether a distinction should be made between horizontal and vertical shaking.

camera

The camera was supplemented by the functions SmartCapture and TrueView. The former should enable particularly short trigger times, the latter should display the entire area captured by the camera.

Features not affected by this

Google Apps

For licensing reasons - as with almost all custom ROMs - the Google Apps are not preinstalled, but these can be installed using recovery (e.g. TWRP ).

Launcher

The Google Now Launcher and the Slim Launcher are installed by default, the first time the user chooses one of the two. A special feature of the SlimRom are the detailed setting options of the graphical surface: Among other things, the start bar and the quick settings menu can be changed, so entries can be added and removed. In addition, it is possible to adjust the color of individual entries such as the power menu and the status bar and to some extent - as with the battery symbol - also the shape.

The behavior of animations when scrolling through menus can also be set. The user can choose from around 10 different animations.

SlimRecents

The menu of recently used applications has also been revised and renamed SlimRecents. A sidebar will appear showing the most recently used applications. A special feature of SlimRom is that it can also be displayed on the left side of the screen, e.g. B. to enable left-handers to operate the device better.

Privacy Guard

SlimRom has a so-called Privacy Guard, which enables apps to be revoked afterwards. This prevents potential security risks from having too many authorizations on the part of the developer.

Root access

The superuser is available, but this must first be activated in the developer options. Rights management is already preinstalled, so there is no need to reinstall the corresponding apps. Superuser but in SlimLP by CyanogenMod replaced PrivacyGuard.

Notifications

SlimRom enables users to view notifications as bars at the top or bottom of the display. This option is deactivated by default and must be activated manually for each app. Another option for customizing the custom ROM is the ability to display apps or contacts in the notification bar.

Feature newly introduced with SlimLP

Slim Dim

With SlimDim, the navigation bar can be dimmed to a level desired by the end device user during inactivity, so that the buttons are no longer so noticeable. If you touch the buttons near them, they light up again.

Availability

60 different devices are currently supported, a list can be viewed on the former project page. However, the latest version of the ROM can only be downloaded from the project page for around 25 devices.
