A sound that was registered and recorded by hydrophones in the Pacific Ocean on May 19, 1997, is called slowdown or slow down . The cause of this noise is unknown, the place of origin is in the range of 15 ° S, 115 ° W suspected.

So far, the noise has only been registered once by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) using the US Navy's Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array . It reached such a volume that it could be detected within a radius of 2,000 km. NOAA suspects the noise was caused by a large iceberg colliding with the ocean floor. The noises were registered several times in the following years.
