The Slovenian EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2008 marks the chairmanship of Slovenia in the Council of the European Union . In accordance with the schedule, the incumbent Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša became Chairman of the European Council on January 1, 2008 on the basis of Art. 203, Clause 1 of the EC Treaty in conjunction with the Council Decision 2005/902 / EC, EURATOM . Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel took over the office of President . On July 1st, 2008 the presidency was handed over to France.
