The Portuguese EU Presidency in the second half of 2007 referred to the presidency of Portugal in the Council of the European Union . On the basis of Art. 203 sentence 1 of the Treaty in conjunction with the Council Decision 2005/902 / EC, Euratom, the members had the Cabinet Sócrates I the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July 1 to December 31, 2007 held. Political agenda

On May 15, 2007 , the Portuguese Foreign Minister Luís Amado presented the main points of the political program of the Portuguese Council Presidency on the occasion of a political debate by Friends of Europe in Brussels . In continuation of the efforts of the German Presidency, the Sócrates government devoted itself to solving the European constitutional crisis; on December 13, 2007, the Lisbon Treaty was signed for this purpose . In addition, the competitiveness of the European economic area within the framework of the Lisbon strategy as well as security and foreign policy were the focus.
