SmartPad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SmartPad is a tool for PDAs distributed by Seiko Instruments . It consists of an approx. A4 sized pocket, in which a normal A5 block is stapled on the left side, under which a kind of "digitizing board" lies. With a special pen, every line drawn on the paper is recorded and output on an infrared diode, which is clamped on the right side at the top. The PDA is attached directly underneath, which then receives an exact copy of what has been written / drawn as a digital copy.

Almost all PDAs with infrared are supported that run either with the Palm OS operating system up to version 4 or Windows CE (Palm OS devices since version 5.0 are no longer supported because they use a different protocol for communication via the infrared port) . Another special feature of the SmartPad is the external keyboard, which is hidden under the notepad: It is a kind of external keyboard for the PDA that can be operated with the pen supplied.

The SmartPad itself is powered by two AAA batteries, the pen with one AAAA battery. The SmartPad also comes with three reserve leads for the pen; the pad is a completely normal A5 pad, as you can buy it in every paper shop.

A similar product, which also supports notebooks , is also sold by Seiko Instruments: InkLink .
