Smerbeke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Smerbeke is a desert in the district of Göttingen . It is located between Herzberg am Harz and Scharzfeld in the valley of the Eichelngraben, 300 m northeast of the Knickelberg .

history

Smerbeke was first mentioned in a document in 1288. The time of desertification must be before 1530, but it cannot be narrowed down. According to the results of a site survey, Smerbeke was a single row settlement about 300 m long. Only the field name Alter Kirchhof indicates that Smerbeke could have owned a church or chapel. Except for a few potsherds in the field, nothing today reminds us that there was once a village here. The karst hiking trail leads past the desert.

The place name is made up of the defining word Smer , which can mean fat , pain , dirt or excrement , and the basic word Beke , which means a brook, see the names of the waters on brook .
