The Knickelberg (also the short form Knickel is common) is a 292 m high mountain on the edge of the Harz , about 2.5 km southeast of Herzberg am Harz and 1.5 km northwest of Scharzfeld in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony .
The southern half of the Knickelberg is covered with mixed forest. On the south-eastern slope there are several dolomite rocks up to 12 meters high , which were used for climbing . At the northeastern end of the mountain is a small cave, the entrance of which has been buried. There are numerous sinkholes in the summit area . The Knickelberg is located on the Karst hiking trail .
The Smerbeke desert is located about 300 m northeast of the Knickelberg .
