Smockey

Smockey (actually Serge Bambara , born October 24, 1971 in Ouagadougou , Upper Volta , today Burkina Faso ) is a hip-hop artist, producer and political activist from the West African state of Burkina Faso.

Life

After producing a single at EMI in France, where he has lived since 1991, Smockey (from French: se moquer "mock"), son of a Bissa and a Frenchwoman, moved back to his home country. He founded the Abazon studio there and has so far released two albums; Epithaph (with Yeleen , Wed Hyack and Féenose, among others ) and Zamana .

Together with another musician, the reggae artist Sams'K Le Jah , Smockey led a democracy movement, " Le Balai Citoyen " (German: "the broom of the citizens" ). The aim was a democratic restart in Burkina Faso and the end of the 27 years of sole rule by Blaise Compaoré . The latter finally succeeded in 2014.
